COVID-19 and attending the Surgery

Surgery

Sandycove Surgery remains open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. We have put protocols in place to ensure the safety of patients and staff in line with Department of Public Health guidelines and we have changed the way we manage GP and Nurse consultations . Initially, you will have a telephone consultation and then the doctor or nurse will arrange an examination at the surgery, if medically necessary. To comply with Public Health guidelines your visit to the surgery will be less than 15 minutes as your medical history will have been taken at the telephone consultation. All patients are to please wear a face covering.

It is important to remember, however, that everyday medical issues continue to occur during this period. We continue to be available for any medical needs, as well as routine pregnancy care, childhood vaccinations, and urgent blood tests/investigations. Please telephone the surgery to make these appointments.

As per HSE guidelines please DO NOT attend the practice without a prearranged appointment.

We understand that this is a very challenging time, your patience is appreciated.  More details

Covid19 Vaccination Clinics at Sandycove Surgery – updated 15/02/2021

The Covid19 vaccine programme is expected to commence mid February 2021. Due to the Government announcement on the 3rd February, 2021 we are awaiting clarification on which vaccine we will be administering but it will be either the Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna vaccine in all our over 70’s patients, depending on which vaccine our practice will be allocated.

It will be available to patients depending on their age according to strict Government guidelines. We are forbidden from vaccinating anyone outside these age groups.

It will be for patients aged over 85 initially, then in increments of 5 years until the age of 70. We do not have any information in relation to vaccinating people under the age of 70 as of yet.

There is no discretion whatsoever for us to vaccinate any patient with an underlying medical condition unless they fall into the above age category; COVID19 is most severe in the elderly. They have the highest mortality and hence are deemed the most in need.

We will update our website regularly when we have further information. The Covid19 vaccine will be offered by invitation only to the appropriate age groups. If you have changed your mobile phone number in recent months or if you are a relative/carer of a patient who is unable to receive a call, please contact the surgery to update these details. A valid PPS number is also required

We will contact you to arrange your appointment and provide you with clinical information and discuss consent.

We will know more in the coming days and we will update our website with any new information.
